We have an exciting adventure planned for our 2nd and 3rd graders! Next Tuesday, October 15, we will embark on our first-ever overnight fieldwork, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share the details with you. I will be sending home permission slips this week, so keep an eye out!
Our trip will take us to Durango, where we’ll start by hopping on the trolley and exploring the Durango-Silverton Railroad Museum. It’s a fantastic opportunity for the students to learn about the rich history of our area’s railroads. After a fun day of learning and exploring, we’ll spend the night at Durango Lodge.
But the highlight of the trip comes the next day when we’ll ride the historic steam locomotive 🚂 all the way back to Silverton! The train ride promises to be an unforgettable experience, and we’ll cap off the journey by walking back to school for a 2:00 pm dismissal. Families are welcome to greet us at the train station when we arrive—what a fun way to celebrate this milestone together!
In preparation for the trip, this week we’ll be making observations and starting our engineer drawings of the steam train, identifying all the important parts that make it go. It’s a perfect blend of learning and hands-on fun!
Additionally, we’re thrilled to have a special guest, Andrew Nalani, joining us this week. He will be leading our morning meeting, and I encourage you to ask your child about the magical experience of singing with him—it’s truly something special!
I know overnight fieldwork can be a big deal, especially for our second graders, so we’re keeping it local and simple to make sure everyone feels comfortable and excited.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We can’t wait for this adventure!
