Dear Silverton School Families and Community,
Welcome back to school! It’s been wonderful to have our students and staff return to campus. Over these first few weeks, students have been learning their schedules, meeting their teachers, participating in academic assessments (which help guide instruction), reconnecting with old friends, making new ones, and beginning this year’s learning expeditions.
We’re excited to introduce two new members of our team!
Mr. Gurdayal Singh is our new math teacher and will be teaching 5th Grade Math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Pre-Calculus.
Alyson Wiemken has joined us as part of our 21st CCLC grant program, which supports out-of-school programming. She’s exploring a pathway to becoming a certified teacher and currently supports lunch, recess, PE, and after-school activities.
This is my first year serving as both Superintendent and Principal, and I’m grateful to be supported by a strong administrative team: Megan Brosh, Heidi Aberman, and Jane Edwards (with Sarah Largent returning soon from maternity leave!). Additionally, Kelly Habecker is our assistant principal-in-training for the Upper School (6th–12th grades), and Sallie Barney is our assistant principal-in-training for the Elementary School (K–5th grades).
We had an amazing experience at Whole School Crew at Eureka Lodge last Thursday and Friday. Our entire school community came together to build connections, grow as individuals, and bond as a “CREW.” We were guided in this work by Andrew Nalani, an expert youth facilitator visiting from Vanderbilt University.
Please mark your calendars for Back to School Night on September 10, 2025! It’s a special evening where families can tour the school, meet all staff, visit classrooms, and enjoy dinner together.
We also invite you to attend our Parent-Educator Collaborative Monthly Meeting—a great space to connect and share ideas. Our first meeting is scheduled for September 23, from 4:00–5:00 PM at the Family Engagement Center.
New this fall: We’re offering optional one-on-one parent-teacher conferences on the afternoon of September 24. These meetings are a great opportunity to talk about your child’s progress—academically, socially, and emotionally—and to set goals for the year ahead.
We are committed to providing your child with a meaningful, engaging, and transformative educational experience. Your feedback, questions, and partnership are incredibly important to us. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher—or to me directly—at supt@silvertonschool.org or 970-749-6259.
Warm regards,
Elizabeth Barszcz
Superintendent & Principal Silverton Public School
