We are very proud to announce that our own Mrs. Whitney Gaskill, 4th/5th Grade Teacher, has been selected as a finalist for the 2022-2023 Colorado Teacher of the Year Awards!
This honor recognizes "an exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable and skilled K-12 classroom teacher to represent the entire profession in Colorado".
Mrs. Gaskill's citation for the nomination reads as follows:
Whitney Gaskill teaches a combined class of fourth and fifth grade at Silverton School, where she recently completed her ninth year in the classroom. Gaskill has a particular passion for project-based and service learning. In 2021, her class won the United Launch Alliance’s Student Payload Competition for designing an Astronaut Art Pack to help space travelers with their mental health.
The Colorado Teacher of the Year will be announced in October, and will go on to the National Teacher of the Year awards as Colorado's sole nominee.
We are so proud of Mrs. Gaskill for all of her hard work and dedication. Please congratulate her on this nomination when you see her around the school!
