Last month, the middle school cross country team traveled to Denver to compete in the state championship. Silverton student Richard Lowrance placed 12th in the boy’s championship race out of 171 runners. He placed first out of the combined team for Silverton, Ouray, and Ridgway runners. Elliot Barszcz and Jonah Kranker placed 67th and 69th overall, coming in 4th and 5th place for the combined team.
The girl’s combined team placed first in the state, though no Silverton students ran for the team. Kate Barney had an amazing open race run, coming in 4th out of a total 128 runners. The open race focuses on individual runners. The course was a challenge at just over two miles.
Other Silverton students who participated in the season include Zoe Robinson, Phen Mead, and Liam Joyce.
