Adventures and Swimming

Each Monday was Adventure Monday. We took the students off campus to experience a variety of activities. Every Friday the students got to spend time in the warm water of the Ouray Hot Springs, or brave the chilly Ridgway Reservoir.

Adventure Monday

Week 1: Hiking around Silverton
Week 2: Anasazi Heritage Museum
Week 3: Durango Rec Center (kayaking and paddle boarding practice)
Week 4: Powerhouse Museum
Week 5: Turtle Lake (kayaking and paddle boarding)
Week 6: Durango Rec Center
Each week the students hopped on the buses and went on an adventure. They got to explore the mountains surrounding Silverton, and they learned about the history of the Puebloan people during their visit to the Anasazi Museum. The students learned how to kayak and paddle board while playing at the Durango Rec Center, and put those new skills to the test at Turtle Lake. Life jackets were definitely worn. At the Powerhouse Museum, the students got to experiment with different power sources and brain teasers.

Swimming

Week 1: Ouray Hot Springs
Week 2: Ouray Hot Springs
Week 3: Ouray Hot Springs
Week 4:Ridgeway Reservoir
Week 5: Ouray Hot Springs
Week 6: Ouray Hot Springs

Fridays were definitely a day the students looked forward to. At the Hot Springs, the students enjoys climbing on the teachers, playing in the warm pool, and relaxing in the hot tub. The first few moments at the reservoir were filled with squeaks and squeals as the students entered into the chilly water. However, soon after the initial cold, they were swimming and splashing and enjoying the mountain lake.
